Characteristics

The characteristics are very important and are used to identify variants or items created by the configurator.

The characteristics can be:

  • Structure type: which assume a defined list of alphanumeric or numeric values

  • Measure type: accept numeric values (for each characteristic it is possible to define a range of values from / to)

Each characteristic and its values can be translate for the management and printing of documents.

Rules

The rules define the set of characteristics to be associated with each individual "neutral" configurable item.

For each rule it is possible to define:

  • The list and sequence of characteristics to be requested to the user.

  • Define whether the feature is mandatory or optional.

  • Define the list of values that the characteristic can assume for the rule (it could be a subset of the values expected by the characteristic).

  • Define Transfer Value Type relationships that allow you to automatically copy the value of one characteristic to another (simplifying the operator's work). For measure type characteristics, calculation formulas can be set, that use the values of other characteristics, constants and numerical operators. The transfer of the value can be linked to conditions both in AND and in OR.

  • Define Structural relations (defined as Filter) that allow you to vary / condition the values of other characteristics.

  • Define mandatory / optional relationships to make certain characteristics mandatory / optional based on a condition or value of another characteristic.

The relationships can be defined within Business Central or by associating the excel template rule through which to recalculate the values of the characteristics by setting the calculation formulas within the excel sheet.

Items

In items there are the following choices:

  • Activate / deactivate the configurator and associate the specific configuration rule

  • Define default values and included characteristics

  • Items / Variants

Based on the setup, the product configurator can generate Items or Item Variants.

    Price Matrix

The matrix prices allows users to manage sales prices parametrically according to the items characteristics. The main features are:

    • Prices for Customer Price Group or for specific customer

    • Prices for characteristics

    • Currency, starting / ending date, minimum quantity

    • Surcharges management

    • Prices List Surcharges management

    Documents

The product configurator is used in:

    • Sales documents (Blanket Order, Order, Quote, Invoice)

    • Purchase documents (Blanket Order, Order, Quote)

    • Transfer Order

    • Items

The product configurator can also be used in the lite version. The lite version allows the enabled user to load the values of the characteristics, even partially, without generating items, production BOMs and routing. At a later time, the configuration can be resumed by the technical office which completes the configuration by generating items, production BOMs and routings.
